Tools for a Read-Write World

Femke Snelting presents Tools for a read-write world (Interactivos?’13) at the Open Design Conference in Barcelona

"Interactivos? is a hybrid between an intense collaborative prototyping workshop, a seminar and a showcase. For a period of two weeks artists, designers, developers and educators from various disciplines and levels of expertise work together on projects that are selected through an open call. This platform for reflection, research and experiments has been organised since 2006 by Medialab Prado in Madrid but there have also been editions in Lima, Mexico city, Dublin, and Ljubljana. The workshops expand the use of electronic and software tools for artists and grow local and international communities of cultural producers.

The 2013 edition of Interactivos?’13 focused on tools to design, edit, read, draw and write together. A group of 60 participants from all over the world came together to reinvent design workflows based on collaboration and exchange. 9 selected projects included software for collaborative typography, an on-line platform to support collective intelligence, a radical democracy kit and the launch of a FLOSS-publishing lab. The outcomes of this workshop and methods that were used hint at how Open Design and Shared Creativity might produce another relation to digital tools, or necessitate a different toolset altogether."
