Shared Digital Futures

Shared Digital Futures is a conference that explores the impact of digital network technologies for cultural production. With Tools for a Read-Write World Femke will contribute to the panel New collective authorship.

To develop and produce shareable content, many different practices are brought together, each carrying it’s own culture of collaboration. Here, digital tools function as probes into a multi-way web of connections, where communication technologies, digital materialities, systems for distribution and politics of production conflate. What if we take the notion of Read-Write beyond the "canvas" (the pixels of an image, the contents of a document), and collectively author software itself? How can we interrogate hardware, standards, platforms, frameworks, and ways-of-doing? What collective practices do we imagine, and which tools can make them happen?
For this panel Femke will present some of the outcomes of Interactivos’13, a platform for research, production and learning that was organised by Medialab Prado (Madrid) this April. For two weeks, a large and diverse group of people worked together to prototype digital and physical tools for collective design, drawing, typography and publishing.
