For a Human Digital Code

On Monday 11 March 2024, we discovered together the Digital Code, a self-proclaimed code of law written and staged by the Comité humain du numérique.

The Comité humain du numérique is a group of citizens campaigning for a digital world that adapts to people and not the other way round. For the past 2 years, they have been organising meetings and actions to create critical spaces for digital issues in the city: gathering testimonies, collective creation of laws, human street parliament, public and participative filming, demonstrations, ...., etc.

During this evening, we explored 4 proposed laws for the Digital Code in the form of a ’Human Committee’ where everyone could participate and chose their role(s): the King of the Belgians, experts, MPs, ... During this assembly, everyone was free to enter and leave, propose changes to the text and vote on it!

☆ Following on from the mobilisation around the Brussels Digital Ordinance, the laws presented and debated focused on the accessibility of essential services (municipalities, CPAS, trade unions, banks, etc.) ☆

Every 2nd Monday of the month, the critical reflection encounters on the digital at DK, propose to address topics related to the digital (e.g. algorithms, surveillance capitalism, ecological impacts, etc.) and to explore alternative ways of doing things (discovery of free and ethical tools, ungluing of smartphones, protection of communications, etc.)

These evenings take place in two parts: a first part of informal and friendly meeting, where everyone is invited to bring their questions, ideas, projects; followed by a more structured part, which may take the form of a thematic presentation followed by a discussion, or a practical workshop.

These meetings are organised by one of Constant’s partner,Tactic.
