Anna K

fiction : Catherine Lenoble / design : Open Source Publishing

Anna K is a hybrid literary creation, inspired by the life and work of British writer
Anna Kavan (1901–1968). It brings together a fiction, Anna K, to be published by HYX editions in 2016; an online creation, kavan.land, developed in collaboration with OSP; and an offline exhibition, kavan.LAN, bringing together the different chapters of Anna K fiction and a personal collection of data and media under a free license. The installation in the window of Constant gathers all these elements. Coupled with public events, it proposes to extend, as much as to experiment, new territories of reading and writing.

Catherine Lenoble is a writer who explores ways of reading and writing in present time, experimenting with cross-genre narratives and hybrid fictional objects (print, online). She is engaged with writing in different collaborative environments and co-initiated the research group Algo-lit (algorithms & literature) in 2012. Stéphanie Vilayphiou and Alex Leray are part of the collective Open Source Publishing, a group of designers involved in the making of graphic design using only free and open source software.

A grant from Centre National du Livre in France allowed Catherine Lenoble in 2013 to carry out a series of meetings with key-persons (publisher, literary agent, archivist, journalist, blogger, writer, artist, scholar) and study visits in institutions holding Kavan’s papers and paintings : Bethlem Royal Archives & Museum (London), National Library of Wales (Aberystwyth), McFarlin Library (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Harry Ransom Research Center (Austin, Texas).
Kavan.land has been supported by Centre National du Cinéma (DICRéAM) and hosted in residency in Nantes (PiNG), Brussels (Constant/Variable), Villeneuve-lès-Avignon (La Chartreuse) and Montpellier (La Panacée). An Anna Kavan edit-a-thon (Wikipedia editing workshop) has been organized in September 2014 in London with the kind support of Wikimedia UK and Anna Kavan Society.
