The Invasive Species Study Group (Hwa Young Jung, Yi Zhang, and Monika Gabriela Dorniak) warmly invites you to an interactive two-day-programme (26-27 September 2026), to reflect critically on “invasiveness” as biological and social concepts constructed to “other” and exclude particular agencies of democratic systems.

How does political control over more-than-humans or other-than-humans (Marisol de la Cadena) mirror political and social hierarchies? On 26-27 September, we will explore this and other pressing questions through a multisensorial and interactive approach that makes space for participation and critical discourse. The programme begins on Saturday with the “Invasive Species Unconference” led by Hwa Young Jung inviting everyone to share their knowledge, urgencies and desires to reimagine ecological and cultural belonging through multispecies relationships rather than borders or categories. The unconference applies a participant-driven method in which attendees are encouraged to collaboratively propose topics, and gather around shared questions of belonging entered through the scientific categorisations of ‘invasive' ‘alien' ‘native' of plants and animals that also seep into political discourse and policy making.

On the second day of the programme we will dive into a more practice-based approach as a shared activity in the Constant garden between Yi Zhang and Monika Gabriela Dorniak. Yi Zhang invites you to a foraging walk and workshop, to get to know your more-than-human neighbours by learning their stories of migration, followed by a hands-on session to explore healing practices as mutual aid using plants often labeled as ‘invasive'. Together, we will recreate 2-3 recipes, by making tinctures, ferments, balm/salves, and discuss safe foraging techniques. Through these gestures of transforming “unwanted” plants into 'healer' kin, we will turn narratives of exclusion into gestures of care.

As part of the foraging walk, the score-based performance walk “Mediator of Estrangement” by Monika Gabriela Dorniak proposes a human-decentred approach of “being with” the environment. Participants are invited to activate ecosomatic, poetic scores that make us think with plants, breathe with bugs, and immerse oneself in the experience with a local “invasive” adaptation of nerve-strengthening Hildegard von Bingen cookies that may act as temporary causae et curae for politically destabilising times.

Cyberwitching: Infra travelling

Join us for a walk-through presentation facilitated by Raymundo, where we will explore their aspects, dependencies and analyze them to understand the impact these technological infrastructures have on nature and societies. The digital world does not exist in a vacuum, it is instead shaped by the extraction of minerals, the deployment of submarine cables and data centers. A vortex of elements that connect in several ways, through specific geographical infrastructures.

Unraveling the technocapitalist narratives allows us to get closer to the reality behind, and to think of ways to to uncast their spells.

Bio
Raymundo is a computer engineer with several years of experience hacking computers and building software systems on top of them. He is now working with land defending and indigenous organizations building autonomous digital infrastructure and creating networks from decolonial, feminist and non-capitalistic ways of being. He also researches the ideologies and ecosystems that give origin to digital technologies and its impact on nature and societies with the aim of dismantling techno-solutionist narratives and make place for ancestral futures to exist.

This session is part of a research trajectory initiated in collaboration with constant's cobwebs. This research is supported through the framework of one of Constant's artistic commission of 2026.

Study days: to blow your cover

On the 11 & 12 June we will organise two study days around the question 'what could blow your cover?' in the context of Constant's 2026 research trajectory on Unbordering.

Unbordering is a call to critically and radically rethink the technological apparatus of visual control erected near and far from European borders. It is a dive into repressive and authoritarian technologies as an internalisation of the violent politics of Fortress Europe. Unbordering examines border technologies in order to unravel the ways in which the border becomes a means of making violent cuts, literally and figuratively, across bodies, lives, livelihoods, cultures, nations and ecosystems.

What is (allowed to be) in full exposure? What has to remain in the shadows? In this two-day programme, we will touch upon several layers that could 'blow your cover' or - reversely - 'cover you up' – from the large scale perspective of nation borders to the up close internal or inherited knowledges.

Amongst other things, we will gather with herbalist Edith Stefanato for a workshop to create a protective balm using comfrey, a local healing plant from ancient medicine. A session with Sarah Chander (Equinox) will blow the cover of the ways national borders are being fortified. Artist, astrologer and tutorSamah Hijawi* will host a collective cooking session, while she discusses how the concept of unbordering is read in astrology and the characters of the planets.

Join us in uncovering and covering through collective moments of making, reading, drawing, listening and cooking.

Study Days: Mapping Otherwise

A workshop, followed by a talk and a conversation

How can mapping and spatial analysis be used to record and respond to urban conflict?

In the context of the recent arrival of Frontex in Brussels-Midi station, we will consider how mapping can be used to record and resist the militarization of urban space and how it can be used to support collective practices. We will consider mapping as a form of artistic research, activist practice, and a method that creates spatial encounters. Mapping otherwise is a participatory process that uses visual spatial language to analyse the workings of power with those who are subject to it. It is a way of questioning the conventions of standard cartography that sees from one point only (above) and removes experience. In this workshop we will consider how to create maps that are situated and that convey an everyday and lived knowledge of space from the point of view of those who are marginalised. The workshop will take these premises as its starting point: what to map, why and with whom.

After a break, there will be a talk on Topological Atlas, a poetic research project by Nishat Awan* that visualises migration through digital, sensory and human perspectives, followed by a discussion. You can come to the talk without having followed the workshop, and vice versa.

Nishat Awan's research focuses on the intersection of geopolitics and space, particularly on issues related to diasporas, migration and border regimes. About the installation
Violence and resistance exist side by side. For violence to reproduce and go undetected, it must be justified and normalized, and for resistance to bloom, it must be groomed out of sight. Yet, making something invisible and becoming invisible tells two completely different stories.

Quantics Antics of the Borderless Underground (QABU) is a fictional exploration of resistance from humans and more-than-humans to the (in)visible forms of violence that we call 'borders'. Borders are everywhere, grow in all directions, and so does resistance, spreading through city networks beneath our feet, hidden in plain sight, and materialzing in the most unexpected creatures and places.

Through drawings and field recordings, this installation in Constant's window depicts possible elsewheres and elsewhens to denounce the colonial legacy of border narratives and instigate the social imagination against technofascism. Underground routes, mutant moles, and journeys across queer spacetime situate QABU and its authors within the deadly fiction of borders, made of surveillance, incarcerations, and displacements of discriminated-against bodies. Far from being an escape from structural inequality and systemic oppression, QABU's imaginary is a call for using existing tools to break the continuum of violence collectively.

About the workshop
Before the opening, we will organize a workshop to craft a shared urban language with special powers. We will create stencils that overlap with soundscapes and turn walls into dimensional portals between cities. What kind of places would you choose or imagine in a city to be part of QABU interdimensional resistance?

OpenField: A gathering

Constant is invited to participate at the program OpenField as a long time research collaborator of a.pass.

OpenField is a five-day gathering dedicated to the possible futures and autonomies of artistic research.

a.pass invited three artistic collectives,One Field Fallow (BE), Topote de Acahual (MX), and Arquitectura Expandida (CO), to each identify an urgent topic at the end of their research residency. Their responses have become the titles of the first three days of the gathering: Scripts and Protocols for Collective Spaces, Foreshadowing Amid Turbulent Futures, Manifest Everyday Urban Utopias. Three topics to be explored collectively by a multiform constellation of research-based practices.

The fourth day starts off on the right foot: Breakfast for Insatiable Researchers and invites you to meet art workers in Brussels who have long supported artistic research, mostly without structural funding. Directly in the spaces where they usually work. Food for thought, for practices, and more! In the afternoon, the gathering documentation group will share traces from previous OpenField moments during a Memory-Making Session, and create space for contributions from everyone.

The fifth day Constant will host at its studio Collabora(c)tion: Futuring Artistic Research, a session for organisations, educational institutions, and collectives who want to explore how to join forces and continue (or begin) creating shared spaces, time, and energy for artistic research.

We would like to invite you for a session to take a look at the Trickster as the embodiment of the smuggler figure. An occulture process. Together we will work on invisibility, disappearing in the ultra technological system, and how to stop fearing boundaries.

In the Mexican coyote cartography, the fire was kept by a circle of unreachable flies, the world outside of the circle was left in the darkness. The coyote ran inside and put its tail on fire and then she burned the forest around; by this act the fire was set free and became accessible for everyone again.
By this holistic figure, we will explore counter knowledge. We will play together with the camouflage of our inner self, and looking for strategy to confront the surveillance technologies. This technopaganism workshop, will involve our body as a weapon, shapeshifting, discomfort, grey zone. Developing a language without words, as they listen to our whispers, we play with how the information we transmit can only become visible between the ones we trust.

I'm a gatherer, a hopecore, a trans being, a spiritual anarchist. Living in the neuro_divergent pleasure world , with ptsd forces , that often drag me into the void. From this void I'm making swamps relying on radical resistance.

Artistic Commission #2: Invasive Species Study Group

For the second artistic commission in 2025 Constant invited The Invasive Species Study Group, a relatively new international collective comprising Monika Gabriela Dorniak, Hwa Young Jung and Yi Zhang, who met during the worksession Otherworldly Communications organised in June by Constant. The commission began at the end of 2025 and will conclude with a public presentation in mid-2026. For the commission, this collective gathers and activates various practices that range from community work to performance, writing and game design, in collaboration with the Brussels art space Au Jus.
