Surveillance diverse camera maps

In 2010 + 2011 Denis Devos and Peter Westenberg made with Constant and La Ligue des Droits de l'homme several works around camera-surveillance.

We organised walks across the city + the law, to match the legal framework and the reality of the city. We captured videos from wireless surveillance camera's + with this lawyer Frank Dumortier (Crids Namur) made a work to analyse the individual images to se what legal framework applies.
This was useful for the league to address privacy problems with the 'surveillance camera law'.

Altogether we made an artwork / instruction video ('Stare') in which the images are combined with his voice over.

Also some more playful walks were organised, where we spied on the spycams, and made excercises to hide from the surveilling camera's.

We do also cartography workshops, where we note camera positions in the city and check if they are announced on the list of the privacy commission.
Usually we have some activists / specialists / jurist present who is knowledgeable abou t the subject and makes the walk into a discursive collective exercise.

This one is started, but never finished because some hackers want to join the sous-surveillance.net maps that are now being made in France.

This workshop also included reviewing the safety of the 'mobib' cart of the STIB. We showed in the metro that the cards can easily be read by anyone who buys a simple card scanner.

#CLIfe : Command-Line Interface for everything

What? Command-Line? Yes. Exactly. That thing with the computer where you see characters flying by just like when Neo found out about the Matrix. It seems cryptic and magic, doesn't it? People doing this can only do illegal things for sure. Not.

The console, where all those commands happened to be typed, has been around since computers have monitors. And they still exist in modern computing. They come really handy for a lot of things and especially when the graphical interface is going bad or not even there at all.

#CLIfe is a workshop organized by Michael Murtaugh and Julien De Swaef to teach you the basis of command-line manipulation, show you how useful (lifesaving?) this can be and have some fun with it. For the more advanced users, the workshop is oriented to CLI experimentations and knowledge sharing. Isn't CLI a lifestyle afterall?

Eens per maand vindt een dag plaats rondom Blender en Python scripts.
Gebruikeleijke programma van de dag:
Ochtend: Show + Tell.
Iedereen is welkom om een functie van Blender te presenteren; het is geen verplichting, maar we hebben gelerkt dat oook beginnelingen iets te leren hebben aan meer ervaren gebruikers.
Middag: Hack tijd.
Experimenten rondom projecten gemaakt met pythion scripts, en samen werken we aan zaken die de aandacht van de deelnemers getrokken hebben. Anders gezegd: (…)

Un vendredi autour de Blender et du scripting Python. On se réunit dans l'espace Variable de Constant, 80, rue Gallait à Schaerbeek, de 10h à 18H.

Programme habituel de la journée (en fonction des participants):

– Matin: Show & Tell. Ceux qui le désirent sont invités à présenter une fonctionnalité de Blender qu'ils connaissent bien, comme ça tout le monde peut apprendre de tout le monde. Aucune obligation, mais nous avons remarqué que même les débutants ont toujours quelque chose à apprendre aux plus confirmés.
– Après-midi: Hacking time. Expérimentation autours de projets de scripts python et travail collaboratif sur quoique ce soit qui aura attiré l'attention des participants. Autrement dit, emmenez vos idées. Venez avec des projets réalisables en une après-midi ou presque.

Fin de journée, nous publions nos résultats, bouts de codes et autres fichiers .blend sur le Github de l'atelier
