Possible Bodies

Possible bodies is the workingtitle for a collaborative work on ways 3D-software conditions imaginations of gender. Looking at the practice of 3D-modelling, scanning and printing, we are concerned with the specific entanglements of technology, representation and normativity that appear through renderings of the virtual.

Following from GenderBlending, a worksession that Constant organised in 2014, Possible Bodies has been developing through texts, experiments and performances. Possible Bodies is also a growing discursive archive that contains videoworks, documentation, manuals, guided tours, software-demos, objects, games, etc. The archive provides a context for interrogating corpo-realities oriented through parametric interfaces and anatomies that are computationally constrained by the requirements of mesh-modelling. Above all it is an invitation to develop wild combinations and un-suspected prototypes for different digital bodies.

As a contribution to the symposium Hacking Habitat, Femke presents a concrete software case in conversation with this archive. By staging software through a performative spectrum, its potentialities open up: it turns into a thinking machine, hinting at the possibility of a politics, aesthetics and ethics that is truly generative.

Kick%Sync%Trans is een avond rond de de-normalizering van sport met als centrale gast Zeljko Blace.

Zeljko Blace is kunstenaar en activist, hij werkt met de spanningen die bestaan tussen sportnormen en queer uitdrukkingen. Hij vond QueerSport uit als een concept voor kritisch, experimenteel en duurzaam werk en emancipatie.

Samen met Timelab in Gent en een groep vrijwilligers maakte Zeljko Blace een prototype van de Diversity Kickertable, een gemodifieerd tafelvoetbalspel dat spelers wil doen nadenken over het thema representatie. De groep wisselde de sterotiepe mini-spelertjes met een verzameling handgemaakte, 3D-geprinte en 2D-lasercut figuurtjes. Intussen is een Brusselse uitgave van de tafel in de maak, in samenwerking met FabLab Brussel, het sociaal huis HoBo en RainbowHouse. Deze tafel wordt tentoongesteld in De Beursschouwburg tijdens GenderBlending.

Tom Weller is filmmaker en transgender coach bij Boxing-Girls, een queer-feministische boxclub in Berlijn. Hij maakt documentaires en langspeelfilms en organiseert video workshops rond thema's van seksuele geaardheid en identiteit in sport.

Kick%Sync%Trans est une soirée autour de la dé-normalisation dans le sport, présentée par Zeljko Blace.

Zeljko Blace est un artiste et activiste qui travaille avec les tensions entre les normes sportives et les expressions queer. Il a lancé le QueerSport comme un concept permettant du travail critique, expérimental, durable et émancipatoire.

En collaboration avec Timelab à Gand et un groupe de bénévoles, Zeljko Blace a prototypé la Diversity Kickertable, un jeu kicker modifié qui permet de réfléchir autour des sujets de représentation. Le groupe a remplacé les mini-joueurs stéréotypés par une collection de figurines faites à la main, imprimées en 3D ou encore lasercut en 2D. L'édition bruxelloise de la table est développée en collaboration avec FabLab Bruxelles, le centre social HoBo et la RainbowHouse. Elle sera exposée au Beursschouwburg lors de la session de travail GenderBlending.

Tom Weller est réalisateur et coach en transgenre chez les Boxing-Girls, un club de box queer-féministe à Berlin. Il réalise des documentaries et des films de fictions et organise des ateliers vidéo autour des sujets d'orientation et d'identité sexuelles dans le domaine du sport.

Some Birds Are More Like Fish een avond met filmvertoningen, lezingen en een gesprek over lichamen die 'de categorieën voorbij' worden genoemd.
Van "speculatieve biologie" tot parameters voor detectie, tijdens deze avond bespreken we representaties van het menselijk lichaam en zijn kruisingen met andere soorten.

Tijdens deze avond vindt ook een geleid bezoek plaats van het Public Archive, een verzameling games, video's, voorwerpen en documenten die werd samengestel als referentiemateriaal voor de GenderBlending werksessie.

Met bijdragen van Maria Ptkq (SP), Pink Screens (BE) en andere deelnamers aan de GenderBlending werksessie.

Gendered Turing Tests

Dans le cadre du Festival Pink Screens la designer, éditrice et chercheuse canadienne ginger coons explore comment on analyse le genre et sa représentation quand d'autres sont divorcés de nos corps. Les deux heures sont organisées autour d'un Test de Turing, qui est appelé Le Jeu des Stratégies. Des groupes adoptent le rôle d'agent qui vérifie le genre ou l'agent qui essaie de le masquer. L'atelier sera mené en anglais.

Some Birds Are More Like Fish is an evening of screenings, presentations and discussion around bodies beyond categories. From "speculative biologies" to parameters of detection, we'll think together about representions of the human body and its crossroads with other species.

The evening also includes a guided tour of the Public Archive, a collection of games, video works, objects and documents compiled as reference material for the GenderBlending worksession.

Kick%Sync%Trans is an evening on de-normalizing/gendering sport hosted by Zeljko Blace.
With presentations by artists Zeljko Blace and Lola Lasurt, and screening films by Tom Weller and Dylan Williams.

Zeljko Blace is an artist and activist working with the tensions between norms in sport and queer expressions. He instigates QueerSport as a concept for critical, experimental, sustainable work and emancipation.

With Timelab in Ghent and a group of contributors, Zeljko Blace prototyped the Diversity Kickertable, a modded kicker game that reflects on issues of representation. Working with enthusiasts and professionals, they replaced the stereotypical miniature players by a collection of handcrafted, 3D-printed, 2D laser-cut and casted figurines. Instances of moded kickertables in Brussels are developed with FabLab Brussels, HoBo - social center and RainbowHouse – presented in De Beursschouwburg in 2014 and in 2015.

Lola Lasurt is a visual artist living between Barcelona and Gent. With her work Lasurt analyses recent past as a space caracterized by a paradigm-shifting in politics and society, as well as art around the world, that has a complicated relationship to how we construct our identity nowadays.

Her last project The Match. Married women agains single ones is a re-enactment of a football match played by married against single women at the annual party of the Partido Comunista de España in Belgium in 1976, just a year before its legalization in Spain. It was an initiative by Manuel Ramírez, barman of the Federico Garcia Lorca Club in Brussels. Lasurt is also finishing a video featuring synchronized swimming world sub-champion Andrea Fuentes.

Together with Alicia Escobio Alonso and Laura Benítez Valero, she forms the collective Leland Palmer, carrying out research projects in Philosophy and the Arts.

Tom Weller is a filmmaker and transgender coach at Boxing-Girls, a queer-feminist boxing club in Berlin. He makes documentaries and fiction films and organises video workshops on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity in sport.
