On Friday 9th September from 10h till 17h Anaïs Berck will organise a workshop around the source code of the experiments that are on show in the window of Constant_V.

The workshop will focus on how the poetic installation - still on show in the window of Constant - was created. We will look into the code, the database and we will propose to create new versions based on the same corpus.
Expect a massive amount of texts on big data and surveillance, Python code, msql and a joyful atmosphere!

Michel, Cassandra, Google and the others

Is it possible for algorithms to read a poetic story in an archive of news articles on digital surveillance, updated daily by the same person for fifteen years? Can algorithms read a similar story in the texts of a database as that which is told by its creator?

The members of the collective Algolit investigate these questions using e-traces, the database maintained by artist Michel Cleempoel. The answers are a source of inspiration for poetic and visual literary creations that will take over Constant's window.

Opening: Thursday 25 November 2021 from 18:00 till 21:00.
Workshop: Friday 14 January 2022 from 10:00 till 17:00.

Alchorisma: Publication launch

Z33 and Constant are very happy to announce the launch of the collective publication of Alchorisma. The result is an online platform designed by Dorian and Gijs from Open Source Publishing.

Alchorisma Summercamp

After the first invitation of Vesna Manojlovic to organise a Technoshamanic Festival in her house in the mountains in Croatia, we started dreaming. A lot of back & forth mouvements happened.
In Spring 2020, Z33 and Constant were proud and happy to reinvite the participants to the worksession to join a 5 days session in Vercors, in the South of France!
The idea was to work on the prototypes that were developed during Alchorisma in Z33.

Algolit will meet around e-traces, a collection of articles on the surveillance society and the trading of data, gathered over the last 10 years by artist Michel Cleempoel. Algolit will present an online lecture and workshop on VIRAL:IMAGINA, a Mexican platform for i-literature. The topic of the workshop will be an algoliterary exercise based on the Levenhstein Distance, an algorithm that is used in spellcheckers.
The spoken language will be Spanish.

Littérature et Numérique

Algolit is taking part in the exhibition 'Littérature et Numérique' in Maison du Livre in Brussels with 3 different installations: L'algolitérateur, La Voix au chapitre and Greffer des arbres.

Digitization and algorithms are opening up new ways of writing. Will the architecture of the narrative free itself from linearity? Are stories going to write themselves? Will the viewer-reader be able to intervene in the course of the story? Interactivity, non-linearity, automated writing? Revolutions ? Fantasies ? Dead ends? Chestnut trees ? Danger ? The pooling of different approaches to these questions, where plastic arts, technological developments and literary expressions are combined, should allow the visitors to reinterpret the notions of text, book, page, speech, narrative... And, of course, to question their own place, their role as perceivers/readers.

Opening on Friday 25-9 from 18h onwards in the framework of Parcours d'Artistes St-Gilles.

Thursday 1 October at 19h : encounter between the exposing artists and Valérie Cordy, director of la Fabrique de théâtre and teacher of Digital Arts in La Cambre.

Thursday 8 October at 19h : dialogue with philosopher Lambros Couloubaritsis. His latest works deal with the complexity and IA on the one hand and narrative violence on the other.

Unbound Libraries Broadcast

On Friday 5th of June, the worksession Unbound Libraries will come to an end.
After a week of intensive research 'at-home', the participants will gather online at 3pm for an informal sharing moment. They will share, discuss and show impressions of their research during the week.
Worksessions of Constant don't have any production constraint. This moment is an opportunity for friendly outsiders to get some glimpse of the explorations that took place over the week.
