Project: Constant_V

Death will not tear us apart

In the course of 1948, the lives of the authors Sergej Eisenstein, Louis Jean Lumière, Marie-Elisabeth Belpaire, Jacques Feyder, Cissy van Marxveldt and many others came to an end. Seventy years later, in 2019, the intellectual property protection on their oeuvre expires. Finally, their works enter the Public Domain and are from now on available for reuse for everyone.

Together with Nova Cinema and Plus-tôt Te laat, Constant celebrates this synchronous demise and resurrection with a blasphemous collage, a vitrine filled with projections-on-projections, re-drawings and remixes. This gothic edition of Constant_V revives the works in ways we could not have imagined without the freedom to use, copy, interpret and reproduce their respective oeuvres.

Opening: Thursday 24 January at 18:00

This activity is part of Public Domain Day 2019, organised by PACKED vzw in collaboration with Koninklijke Bibliotheek van België, Constant, Plus-tôt Te laat en Cinema Nova.

A seminar on copyright + a Wikipedia edit-a-thon took place on January, 21st and 26th in the Royal Library of Belgium.

On April, 20th a collaborative, performative film-projection will take place in Nova Cinema. For the evening in Nova cinema, your remixes of Feyder, Griffith Eisenstein and/or other authors who entered the public domain this year are welcome!
The proposal is open to any kind of editing or other recreation, in film, analogical video, digital video or animation... duration: from 1 to 5 minutes. Don’t hesitate to invent other forms!
If you want to participate, contact Mariette before 15/04: mariette@collectifs.net
