Arts & Feminisms

Mini-program integrating gender studies in arts education

The project is coordinated by two associations: SOPHIA, which aims to promote gender studies (1) in higher education in Belgium and CONSTANT, which links artistic practice with theoretical thinking in the field of Internet and digital communication.

The purpose of the project is to give students an insight into the work of feminist critical thinking in the field of art. This work not only helps to understand the phenomena of gender inequality in the profession, but they enrich, thanks to new hypotheses, the analysis of artistic phenomena.

With the participation of La Cambre, Ecole nationale supérieure des arts visuels, and ERG, Ecole de recherche graphique, Brussels.

With the support of the college of mayors and aldermen of the Municipality of Ixelles, on the initiative of Sylvie Foucart, alderman of culture, heritage and childhood.

(1) Gender studies have the specificity of introducing a feminist perspective into knowledge. This critical perspective, called the gender dimension, is a questioning or a reading grid based on sexuation.
